When we first caught a live solo gig by Sophie Zeyl, we were amazed. Performing at a club in Amsterdam, she just blew the audience away with tantalizing vocals, acoustic guitar alternated by raw electric guitar and a pulling performance. Endowed with a deep yet airy voice, she received lavish credit from the music press and gained the Dutch 'Best Vocalist' prize at Paradiso, Amsterdam (2004). It should come as no surprise she inspired Anka Wolbert and Pieter Nooten to collaborate with her. The result of their labours is a mixture of warm synth tones, crunchy broken beats, and layered atmospheric textures.
Intimate songs are alternated with upfront tracks like 'I'm Not Like That': a staggering track that grabs you from the off with its insanely-catchy beat before hitting you with a killer chorus. Sophie Zeyl unveils an astonishing debut album.
